The rules
Why does the Hawaiian Harmony blend show only one total?
U.S. rules let a proprietary blend print a single total weight, as long as its ingredients appear from most to least by weight (FDA, Labeling guide). Nutrients with a Daily Value, like chromium, must still show their own amount.
Maca root is the largest share and L-carnitine the smallest. Beyond that, the order cannot tell you whether maca is 10 mg or 1 mg.
A blend total is legal and common. It is also the reason no one outside the maker can check each dose. The trade-off is explained in what a proprietary blend hides.
Symbols
What do the symbols on the Hawaiian Harmony panel mean?
The panel uses three symbols. Each one points to a footnote printed under the table.
- ^ means "sourced from a concentrate with a 20:1 extract equivalent." Most of the plants carry it.
- ° means a 10:1 concentrate. Only African mango seed carries it.
- ¹ after "Advanced Blood Sugar Support" points to the standard FDA statement: the claim has not been evaluated by the FDA, and the product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
The FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA, Approval myths). The ¹ note is normal on any supplement making a support claim.
